The first and most important step to kitesurfing is learning how to get on the surfboard. Follow these easy steps in order to make sure the experience is safe and fun.
Start on the beach in flat water or very small waves and walk out until the water is about kneedeep.
Position the board downwind and sit back in the water.
Place your feet on the board and apply pressure to your heels. Continue to gently fly your kite at the top of the window. This allows the water pressure to keep the board against your feet.
Dive the kite and point the board slightly downwind.
Make sure to keep your knees bent as you stand up on the board.
Once you are standing up on the board, apply pressure with your feet on the board and head upwind.
Once you are comfortable on the board, you can try starting by hopping onto the surfboard. With your front foot on the board, control the direction of it until it is pointing downwind.
Dive your kite while stepping onto the board with your back foot.
Make sure to point your board slightly downwind as you take off.
Eventually, you will be able to toss your board into the water and hop on with both feet as you dive your kite and head into the water.
